New to windows 10, how to import pics to PC

Hey, I'm trying to import the photos from my iPhone 7 to my PC but I can't seem to view them on my PC, I just want to place them in a doc. folder, they have been transferred to iCloud but would like the other too. Can this be done? Even though I have connected it via the USB when I look into This PC it hasn't come up with an icon to say it's connected but it is charging. Please help a non tech guy out.
